Deshen Tourist Resort, Guang’an, Sichuan, China (2012)

Overview:

This project is located in the northern part of the city of Guang’an, which is a tourist city in China. The design site was surrounded by four tourist districts: the east side is on the Qu River, the west side is backed by the Springcastle Mountain, the south side attaches to the Agate Castle and the north side is close to Ex-Chairman Deng Xiaoping’s former residence. This project was designed to produce a garden-style tourist resort, comprised of a site consisting of a hotel, a conference center, a recreational area and senior residential housing.

Challenges:

  • The local infrastructure system had not been updated for many years. The lagging development of the local road system and power system had caused a bottleneck, which had been restricting the local economic development.
  • The terrain of the design site is high in the west and low in the east, with much visible topographic relief, which increased the difficulty of redevelopment and raised the cost.
  • The local lagging developing social service was not supportive of the local development of tourism.

Innovation Theme
To take advantage of the terrain landscape diversity and integrate both Chinese and foreign architectural styles to produce a garden-style tourist resort.
